Tutor Introduction:


1. Who am I?

  • BA(Hons) from Durham University

  • Henrietta Barnett School, best grammar school for girls in the UK

  • I have 10+ years experience of tutoring English Language andLiterature. I work in particular with secondary school aged students, helping them to excel in their GCSE and A-Level Exams.

2. How can I help?

  • I tailor my teaching to my students’ needs (100% of my students surpassed their base grades by at least 2 grades at GCSE).

  • I teach course content in a way that encourages students to develop their own critical thinking and original writing style a key factor required to achieve Level 9 in GCSE Language and Literature

  • I believe that the groundwork for GCSE examinations are laid during KS3 (Yrs 7-9).

  • Both my KS3 and KS4 courses are designed to help students attain Grade 9 in English Literature and Language.

Understanding and Analysing Shakespeare (7 weeks)


Gives students to confidence to engage with Shakespeare’s
language.

Gives students the skills to understand and analyse
Shakespeare plays.

Helps students write Grade 7-9 level answers to essay
questions about Shakespeare’s works.


Writing to Persuade (6 weeks)


Gives students the skills to understand, analyse and employ
persuasive language.


Prepares students for GCSE Speaking Unit, as students learn
the skills to write and deliver persuasive speeches of Grade 7-9
standard.


Helps students write Grade 7-9 level answers to
comprehension questions about speeches/arguments.


Wider Non-Fiction Writing (4 weeks)


Gives students the skills to write informative texts, personal
narratives, reviews, reflections and critiques of Grade 7-9
standard.

 


KS4 Courses


19th Century Novel/ Classic Novel (10 weeks)


*This course can be tailored according to exam board and
chosen text.
Ex: ‘A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens’
Gives students a confident, exam focused understanding of the

Modern Text/ Post 1914 Literary Text (8 weeks)


*This course can be tailored according to exam board and
chosen text.
Ex: ‘An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestly’
Gives students a confident, exam focussed understanding of
the entire text.
Helps students achieve Grade 7-9 across all assessment
objectives.


Unseen Poetry (6 weeks)


Gives students confidence to read, understand and analyse
unseen poetry.
Gives students to skills to write highly analytical and
comparative essays.
Helps students achieve Grade 7-9 across all assessment
objectives.
